I am for sure one of the biggest fans of Firefox among the people I know. I may have managed to “convert” some people too
The Thing i like the most about firefox is how much i can customize it to be the way i want my browser. Using Addons i create my own version of Firefox. I will list my favorite addons, most of them i cannot imagine the browser without them. I hope this benefits you, especially if you are a new “Convert”. The list does not have preference order.
- Adblock Plus: When i use IE on somebody’s PC, websites feel pretty much different and in some cases feel like a totally different site. This addon will remove ads from websites very efficiently and therefore makes page loading much faster too, and more comfortable for the eye.
- LastPass: Many people i know would not even look at a tool like this because they are privacy freaks, but i still have at least a little bit of trust in humanity and morals , i hope i’m not wrong. This tool will save passwords for websites and has auto logon. I rarely type passwords since i started using it.
- Tab Mix Plus: I like starting a new Tab for everything and close the ones i don’t want manually, this addon allows you to start new tabs from the address bar, favorites, search box and more. Also, it will open new tabs next to the current one to allow you to organize the location of you tabs without much manual effort to waste. Many more features are available as well.
- Xmarks: i have bookmark folders that are more than five years old. When i go to office i would like to have them with me, and when i add something new, i want it to be available everywhere too. Xmarks is the best bookmark synchronize tool among the one i tried.
- Download Statusbar: Amazing improvement to your firefox experience, it will show you your downloads in the statusbar (as the name suggests) and therefore you can see the progress of the download without having to open the downloads window.
- Download Them All: Again the name speaks for this addon, it will check the page and look for resources to download like images, music files and videos. You can multi-select file extensions or individual files. The best of it’s category.
- Gmail manager: lovely tool that automatically logs in to gmail and google apps mail and shows a small icon in the status bar displaying the number of unread emails. When you get a new mail, it will show you a snippet of the mail to have an idea what to expect when you open your account.
- Dictionary Tooltip: Just double-click on any word in you browser to have the definition of the word and more in a very nice iFrame without opening a new tab.
- ShareThis: Easily share any page with many online services like Email, Facebook and almost any similar locations.
Tree Style Tab: Now this addon is not for everyone, it is difficult to get adjusted to this new Tab concept because it will switch the location of the tabs from the top to the left, but if you open dozens of tabs like me with different purpose for every bunch, this is your savior, it will put the related tabs in a tree the can be collapsed nicely. Check it and see if it appeals to you.
- Image Zoom: This addon will zoom any image inside any web page. Great tool for image viewing.
- Glazoom: Another zoom tool but for pages, it will zoom the whole page in customizable portions, i know about the Ctrl-Scroll in firefox, but this one can save the settings for specific websites so that you won’t have to manually do it everytime you visit the site, nor affect the other ones.
Of course i use many more addons, but usually they serve a more specific purpose other than day-to-day use and you might not need, these i will share one by one later on.
Please share any interesting addons you use whether their functionality is similar to the ones i use or adds more functions. I would love to hear your suggestions.
